Theou Freedom School
Theou is a small village located in East Gogrial in Warrap State, Southern Sudan, with a population of about four hundred people. It is a remote region, even for southern Sudan, and the majority of the people in the area are local farmers. Unfortunately, the civil war caused the death of the majority of the cattle, and has destroyed the livelihoods of most. With no way to earn a living as farmers, it is very important to find an alternative.
The people of Theou are desperate to teach their children, but the nearest school is a two hour walk away. As a result of the lack of schools, only a small number of people in the village know how to read and write. The purpose of this project is to provide basic educational opportunities for those displaced by the South Sudan Civil War, as well as the current and future children in Theou Village by building a school.
Since Theou is a remote village, many challenges exist; there is no running water, no electricity, no public transporation, and no housing for the teachers to rent. We can bring in teachers from Kenya and the United States to train local teachers, but Theou Village will have to able to supply some of these basic needs to outsiders, requiring more than just classroom buildings. Our goal is to build eight classrooms, one for each grade, three latrines, a kitchen, an office, and a store for school supplies. In addition to the buildings, the Theou School will offer uniforms, a meal, and school supplies for students.
Your contribution is very important to us. Please support children’s futures in South Sudan. Let’s do this together!
